Later on, while investigating the origins of a neighborhood nearby where I grew up in Cincinnati, I was amazed to discover that it had first been developed as a teetotalling housing cooperative. One of its founders was a freethinker and reader of Charles Fourier, an early philosopher of socialism. This discovery led to a full blown thesis project and, after graduating, a book chronicling the planning history of the Bond Hill neighborhood.\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td colspan=\"2\">\n<h3>Judaic Studies<\/h3>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/dimus.parrhesia.press\/?p=58\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/aharon.varady.net\/omphalos\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/cover-art-imrei-lev-rothschild-recto-300x297-e1432423213279.png\" alt=\"cover-art-imrei-lev-rothschild-recto-300x297\" width=\"200\" height=\"198\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-1904\" \/><\/a><\/td>\n<td>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/dimus.parrhesia.press\/?p=58\">\u05d0\u05de\u05e8\u05d9 \u05dc\u05d1: <em>Prayers and Meditations for Every Situation and Occasion in Life<\/a><\/em> (Dimus Parrhesia Press, 2015)<\/p>\n<p \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/dimus.parrhesia.press\/?p=58\"><em>Imrei Lev<\/em> \u05d0\u05de\u05e8\u05d9 \u05dc\u05d1<\/a> (Statements of the Heart) <em><a href=\"http:\/\/dimus.parrhesia.press\/?p=58\">Prayers and Meditations for Every Situation and Occasion in Life<\/a><\/em> is an English translation of \u05d0\u05de\u05e8\u05d9 \u05dc\u05d1 Pri\u00e8res d\u2019un Coeur Israelite, a collection of prayers intended to be used as a companion to Jewish ritual compiled by Arnaud Aron, grand rabbi of Strasbourg and published in 1848. The translation from the French by Hester Rothschild was authorized and approved by Nathan Marcus Adler, chief rabbi of the British Empire (1845-1890). Long out-of-print, this new edition of \u05d0\u05de\u05e8\u05d9 \u05dc\u05d1 in English provides comprehensive citation references, a new layout, and original prayers by Rosa Emma Salaman not included in earlier editions.<\/p>\n<p>All proceeds from the sale of this edition benefit the open-source, digital humanities project that spawned this work: the Open Siddur Project, opensiddur.org \u2013 sharing Jewish liturgy and related work for the crafting and print of new siddurim and related books.\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/dimus.parrhesia.press\/?p=54\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/aharon.varady.net\/omphalos\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/Megillat-Antiochus-250x250.png\" alt=\"Megillat-Antiochus-250x250\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1814\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aharon.varady.net\/omphalos\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/Megillat-Antiochus-250x250.png 250w, https:\/\/aharon.varady.net\/omphalos\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/Megillat-Antiochus-250x250-150x150.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><\/td>\n<td><a href=\"http:\/\/dimus.parrhesia.press\/?p=54\"><em>Megillat Antiokhus for \u1e24anukah<\/em><\/a> (Dimus Parrhesia Press, 2014)<\/p>\n<p \/>This new edition of the 2nd century CE Megillat Antiokhus, the Scroll of Antiokhus, presents Mena\u1e25em Zvi Kaddari&#8217;s critical edition of the Aramaic text, side-by-side with Dr. John C. Reeve&#8217;s scholarly translation in English. A medieval Hebrew and pre-war Yiddish translation are included with these. This is the first time that all of the original Aramaic has been set side-by-side with completely vocalized Hebrew text, Yiddish, and English. The book also contains prayers, blessings, songs for \u1e24anukah, relevant source texts from Midrash, Talmud, and selections from pseudepigraphic writings that highlight less familiar aspects of the festival in its relation to other celebrations of the winter solstice.
